India elections: Meet four of the youngest MPs

Pushpendra Saroj, Priya Saroj, Shambhavi Choudhary, and Sanjana Jatav emerged victorious, representing the Samajwadi Party, Lok Janshakti Party, and Congress, respectively.

Four candidates, all 25, are set to become the youngest Members of Parliament (MPs) after winning in the India elections.

Pushpendra Saroj, Priya Saroj, Shambhavi Choudhary, and Sanjana Jatav emerged victorious, representing the Samajwadi Party, Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), and Congress, respectively.

The Election Commission of India has declared results for all Lok Sabha (lower house of parliament) constituencies, with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) winning 240 of the 543 seats and the Congress 99.

Here are four of the youngest MPs from India election results:

Pushpendra Saroj

Pushpendra Saroj won from Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi seat, defeating the sitting BJP MP Vinod Kumar Sonkar by over one lakh votes.

Pushpendra is the son of Inderjit Saroj, the party’s national general secretary, who lost this seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

Pushpendra joined politics after completing his BSc in Accounting and Management from Queen Mary University of London, reported India Today.

Shambhavi Choudhary

Shambhavi Choudhary, who won from the Samastipur constituency in Bihar, is the daughter of Ashok Choudhary, a minister in Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s cabinet.

She defeated Sunny Hazari of Congress by a comfortable margin. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier praised Shambhavi as the youngest NDA candidate while addressing a campaign rally, reported NDTV.

Priya Saroj

Priya Saroj, another 25-year-old winner from Uttar Pradesh, is a lawyer at India’s top court.

She contested the election on the Samajwadi Party’s ticket.

Priya, the daughter of former MP Tufani Saroj, won from the Machhlishahr seat by 35,850 votes.

Sanjana Jatav

Sanjana Jatav of the Congress party also became one of the youngest MPs in India by defeating BJP’s Ramswaroop Koli by 51,983 votes from the Bharatpur Lok Sabha seat of Rajasthan.

In the 2023 Rajasthan assembly elections, Jatav lost to BJP’s Ramesh Khedi by just 409 votes.
