A book in the works on Dharma Productions’ Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl

After the release of Sooryavanshi, Dharma Productions will roll out their much-awaited film Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl in theatres. The film is a biopic based on the life of Gunjan Saxena, the Indian Air Force Officer who entered the war zone of Kargil in 1999 to save the lives of several wounded soldiers.

The biopic is being produced by Karan Johar. The latest we hear that a book is being planned on the film. KJo is no stranger to people picking up the subjects of his movies to write books about. For the unversed, Dharma Productions’ superhit patriotic drama Kesari (2019), starring Akshay Kumar in the lead role, was also booked exactly after a month of its theatrical release.

“Interestingly, the same writers, Kirandeep Singh and Nirvan Singh, who are a guru-shishya duo in writing and have authored over a hundred poems in Punjabi, tied up with Nitvan Singh, a serving officer in the Indian Army to do the first book, and the duo is doing the book on Gunjan Saxena as well. The book on Kesari was called 21 Kesaris and came out on April 21. Kesari had released on March 21, 2019. Since Gunjan Saxena’s release date has been pushed, this book too will take its time,” sources inform.

Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl stars Janhvi Kapoor in the lead role. This will be her second release after Dhadak (2018). The film marks the directorial debut of Sharan Sharma and also stars Pankaj Tripathi and Angad Bedi in important roles. The biopic was earlier scheduled to arrive in theatres in April 2020 before the Coronavirus pandemic struck. The makers are expected to announce a new release date after the lockdown is lifted and things return to normalcy again.

Ram Gopal Varma says ‘Dhurandhar’ being ignored by industry

FILMMAKER Ram Gopal Varma has said that the film industry often ignores pathbreaking films because it feels threatened by them, referring to the Ranveer Singh-starrer espionage drama “Dhurandhar”.

Varma said films that set new standards are often sidelined by industry insiders who feel unable to match them. He said this was the case with “Dhurandhar”, which is set in Karachi’s Lyari town and directed by Aditya Dhar, known for “Uri: The Surgical Strike”.
