A SERIES of global super hit songs turning Aastha Gill into hot property on the live music scene meant that a debut UK tour was always going to be inevitable for the popular Indian singer.

The talented performer is set to deliver shows at Athena in Leicester next Friday (14) and Hexagon in Reading next Sunday (16) with a live band. She will mix up her hit songs like DJ Waley Babu with familiar classics at what promises to be a high energy tour.

Eastern Eye caught up with the top talent to have a quick catch up ahead of the hotly anticipated concerts.

What first connected you to music? Well, music runs in my family, so I guess it was kind of inevitable for me.

How do you reflect on your journey so far? Looking back, my journey has been a wild ride. There were tough times when I almost gave up, but I’ve been lucky to have some amazing mentors who kept me going.

Every step has taught me something new, and even now, I feel like there’s so much more to learn. It’s what keeps me going. Which song means the most to you? Buzz will always hold a special place in my heart because it was my first. It came at a time when I was feeling really down about my career, so it gave me a new lease on life.

Has any song surprised you with its unexpected success?

As for surprises, DJ Waley Babu definitely caught me off guard. It had a different vibe. I wasn’t sure how people would react, but they loved it, which was amazing.

How important are live shows to you and how much are you looking forward to performing in the UK?

Live shows are everything to me. There’s just something magical about being on stage and feeling the energy from the crowd. And performing in the UK? Oh man, I can’t wait. I have been getting so many heartfelt and supportive messages from fans there, and I just know it’s going to be an incredible and unforgettable experience.

Which songs do you love performing live the most?

I honestly love performing all my songs live. Each one has its own special vibe.

Do you ever get nervous before a show?

Nerves? Yeah, they used to get to me, but once I hear the crowd cheering, all that goes out the window. It’s like they give me this incredible burst of energy and adrenaline that just pushes me through the performance.

Who would you say you look up to in the music world and why?

Sunidhi Chauhan is an inspiration for me. I’ve always admired her talent and style.

 What music dominates your playlist?

In terms of my playlist, it’s a mix of everything. From Hindi and Bollywood to English pop, r’n’b, hip hop, you name it.

Who would you love to collaborate with next?

I’ve been dreaming of collaborating with Diljit Dosanjh for ages. I mean, who wouldn’t want to work with him? He’s just incredible, and I think we could create something really special together.

Tell us something about yourself that not many people know?

I’m actually a pretty good driver. I love being behind the wheel, and cars have al - ways been a passion of mine. It’s something that not a lot of people know about me, but it’s a big part of who I am.

Eurovision in turmoil as Spain Ireland and Netherlands threaten withdrawal over Gaza conflict

Highlights:

  • Spain leads a growing boycott movement, with Ireland, the Netherlands and Slovenia also refusing to participate if Israel competes.
  • The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) is in crisis talks, extending its decision deadline to December 2025.
  • The situation draws direct comparisons to Russia’s exclusion in 2022, creating a precedent the EBU must now navigate.
  • The core dilemma pits Eurovision’s non-political ideals against the stark reality of a humanitarian crisis.

The Eurovision Song Contest, that glitter-drenched annual spectacle of pop and unity, is staring into the abyss. The escalating call for a Eurovision boycott over Israel's participation, against the backdrop of the ongoing Gaza conflict, has put the organisers into their most severe political crisis yet. This isn't just about another song entry but a fundamental clash between the contest's cherished apolitical fantasy and the inescapable geopolitics of the real world, threatening to tear the competition apart from within.
