Air Canada temporarily cancells flights to India

AMID soaring tensions between India and Pakistan, Canada’s flag carrier temporarily suspended its flights to India yesterday (27).

Pakistan yesterday shut its airspace for commercial flights and temporarily cancelled flights operations across the major airports.

India was also shut its nine airports temporarily for civilian air traffic in northern states including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Punjab.

As part of the security measures, the entire airspace north of New Delhi was also vacated.

The latest move came after escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan after India’s fighter jets carried out an air strike on terror camps in Pakistani Kashmir during the early hours of Tuesday (26).

After India’s airstrike on terror camps, India said Pakistan jets intruded into its air space in the Rajouri and Poonch sectors.

One flight en route to India’s capital city from Toronto was turned back over the Atlantic Ocean on Tuesday night and returned to Toronto yesterday.

Another flight from Vancouver to Delhi that was scheduled to depart Tuesday night was also been cancelled, Air Canada said.

Air Canada is monitoring the situation in order to resume service once the situation normalises.
