HOMELESS as a child and growing up on a council estate, Ameet Jogia has risen to become one of prime minister Rishi Sunak’s senior advisers at No10. Appointed in November 2022, Jogia serves as a senior political adviser in Downing Street working across a wide area of policy and public engagement.
A lifelong Conservative, Jogia has served the party in a variety of capacities including stints as an adviser to former prime minister Boris Johnson and other leading politicians. Jogia has been a strong advocate and cham pion of the party’s engagement with ethnic communities which he has led since David Cameron’s tenure as leader. His efforts have paid dividends with the party gaining a bigger share of the Asian Indian vote over the last few elections. Jogia started his political career as an aide to Lord Dolar Popat (see No 66) and the two have developed a lifelong friendship. Lord Popat has been a father figure and mentor to his young protégé. Last year, he was chosen to be the parliamentary candidate for the Hendon, a north London constituency. “It is a tremendous hon our to have been selected as the candidate for Hendon. This area is very special to me, and I look forward to working with the team in rep resenting one of the most diverse areas in the country,” said Jogia. Growing up in the constituency, Jogia is very committed to that part of north London and this year welcomed Oliver Dowden, the deputy prime minister for a tour of the area – Jogia’s motto is ‘working hard for Hendon’. A graduate of King’s College London, he began his career in Network Rail on the management trainee programme - but it was clear he had a passion for politics.
He had interned at the Cabinet Office before joining Lord Popat’s parliamentary team in 2011, rising to become his chief of staff in 2017. Jogia also serves a co-chairman of Conservative Friends of India which he has grown to become the largest affiliate group within the party. The group helped the Conservative Party to victory in local elections in Harrow, Leicester and Slough. A local Harrow councillor since 2014, Jogia is a very active and well-respected figure in the area and part. He was awarded an MBE in 2022 and is married to Priya, a scion of the Jatania family. Jogia will be defending a majority of over 4,000 in Hendon and is set to lead a new generation of young Conservatives.
