Bhumi Pednekar joins Jio MAMI as brand ambassador for short film competition

Actress Bhumi Pednekar has been appointed as the brand ambassador of Dimensions Mumbai, a short film competition based on the theme of Mumbai City, by Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival.

The category was introduced in 2009 by Jaya Bachchan as an ode to Mumbai. The competition is applicable for young filmmakers within the age group of 18–25 years across India and the submissions are now open.

Pednekar said she is thrilled to be a part of Dimensions Mumbai this year.

"It's an incredible platform for young filmmakers; it empowers them to tell personal stories that mean something to them. It gives them an opportunity to showcase their film to a larger audience on a big screen. For decades, Mumbai has inspired filmmakers from around the world. This city has cinema in its DNA. The opportunities that Mumbai can offer with an excellent platform like Dimensions Mumbai to promote filmmakers of extraordinary calibre to their full potential is special.

"As a proud Mumbaiite who is always amazed and excited by the city, I can’t wait to interact with some of these filmmakers, watch their films, and if I am able to positively impact their craft, I will be very happy and grateful for that," the actress said in a statement.

Anupama Chopra, festival director, Jio MAMI, said it is thrilling to have Pednekar as the ambassador for Dimensions Mumbai.

"Bhumi is an actor with talent and taste. Her films, starting with her debut, 'Dum Laga Ke Haisha' have helped to expand the boundaries of Hindi cinema. So, it’s thrilling to have her as the ambassador for Dimensions Mumbai.

"Our ambition with Dimensions Mumbai is to create a culture, a movement of sorts, amongst the young filmmakers across India to tell authentic stories. Short films are the trajectory or emerging voices to flourish; it’s an exciting time for the category, and we are very happy to collaborate with one of our finest actors on this one," Chopra said.

The call for entries for Dimensions Mumbai started last week and will be open until August 31, 2023.

Allu Arjun's 'Pushpa 2: The Rule' breaks records on Netflix, stuns global audiences

Just four days after its Netflix release, Pushpa 2: The Rule (Reloaded) has become a global sensation, breaking records and sparking conversations worldwide. Directed by Sukumar and starring Allu Arjun, the Telugu action-drama has climbed to the number-one spot in seven countries and secured second place in Netflix’s global Non-English Movies category with 5.8 million views. Its high-octane action and Allu Arjun’s performance have left international audiences hooked.

The film’s mix of intense action, drama, and cultural flair has struck a chord with audiences well beyond India. One scene that has taken the internet by storm is the Jathara sequence, where Allu Arjun, draped in a saree, delivers a powerful dance before launching into an adrenaline-pumping fight. This merge of bold cultural flair and high-energy action has become the talk of the globe, with audiences both awed by its audacity and questioning its over-the-top execution. While some praised its creativity, calling it “better than modern US movies,” others questioned its physics-defying stunts, with comments like, “How does he fly so high without wings?”

Marvel’s Fantastic Four teaser transports fans to the 1960s in a daring new take

Marvel’s first teaser for The Fantastic Four: First Steps has fans buzzing, not just about the iconic superhero team, but about the film’s decision to root itself firmly in the 1960s. The 20-second clip, devoid of the main cast, offers a glimpse into a bygone era, with a group of children rushing to a storefront to watch the Fantastic Four’s space shuttle launch on a vintage television. This period-piece approach sets the stage for a fresh take on Marvel’s first family, blending retro aesthetics with the cosmic origins of the team.

The teaser’s 1960s setting is a deliberate departure from previous adaptations, which have struggled to capture the essence of the original comics. By anchoring the story in the decade of the Fantastic Four’s creation, Marvel seems to be paying homage to Stan Lee and Jack Kirby’s groundbreaking work. The choice also opens up intriguing narrative possibilities, such as exploring how the team’s emergence impacts a world on the brink of the space race and cultural revolution.

Aaradhya, daughter of Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan, takes legal action against fake news

Aaradhya Bachchan, the 13-year-old daughter of Bollywood stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan, has moved the Delhi High Court to combat the spread of false and misleading content about her online. The court has issued notices to Google, Bollywood Times, and other platforms, demanding their response to the allegations. The next hearing is scheduled for March 17, 2025.

This legal action follows a previous ruling in April 2023, where the court ordered the removal of deceptive videos claiming Aaradhya was critically ill or had passed away. Justice C Hari Shankar, during the 2023 proceedings, condemned such content as “completely intolerable in law,” emphasising that every child, regardless of their background, deserves dignity and respect. The court had also directed Google to disclose the identities of those responsible for uploading such videos and to promptly remove any future misleading content.
