Boney Kapoor to remake Badhaai Ho in Telugu

After the stupendous success of his maiden South Indian production – Nerkonda Paarvai (2019) – in Tamil, well-known filmmaker Boney Kapoor is now gearing up to venture into the Telugu film industry.

Just like Nerkonda Paarvai, which was a remake of the path-breaking Hindi film Pink (2016), his next is also a remake of a popular Hindi movie. Yes, Boney Kapoor has acquired the remake rights of the Ayushmann Khurrana and Sanya Malhotra starrer Badhaai Ho (2018), which went on to do really well at the cash counter.

Directed by Amit Sharma, Badhaai Ho hit the silver screen on 18th October, 2018. The movie opened to great critical response and turned out to be one of the biggest hits of the year. Bankrolled by Vineet Jain, Hemant Bhandari and Aleya Sen under the banner of Junglee Pictures and Chrome Pictures, Badhaai Ho was made on a shoestring budget of Rs. 29 crores and garnered Rs. 221 crores at the worldwide box-office. With the film having done so well, it seems the producer felt it would be a perfect film to remake in Telugu.

Besides Ayushmann Khurrana and Sanya Malhotra, Badhaai Ho also featured Sanya Malhotra, Neena Gupta and Gajraj Rao in important roles. The movie won four awards at the 64th Filmfare Awards, including Best Actress (Critics) for Gupta, Best Supporting Actress for Sikri, and Best Supporting Actor for Rao.

It also won two National Film Awards - Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment and Best Supporting Actress for Sikri. It will be really interesting to see whether or not the Telugu remake of the successful film generates the same kind of response from the audience.
