Confirmed: RRR 2 in the works as writer KV Vijayendra Prasad has ‘cracked the sequel's premise’

Helmed by SS Rajamouli, RRR (2022) has turned out to be one of the biggest global blockbusters India has produced in recent years. It has been more than half a year since the film first landed in theatres before its digital premiere on Netflix, but the buzz around it is unstoppable.

And fans’ joy knew no bounds when Rajamouli recently announced that a sequel to his global blockbuster, starring Jr NTR and Ram Charan, is in the works. The filmmaker revealed that his screenwriter father KV Vijayendra Prasad, who has penned all his blockbuster films, is writing the sequel.

During a screening in Chicago, when asked if there would be an RRR 2, Rajamouli said, “I would absolutely love to. I can’t reveal many details about it but my father, who has been a screenwriter for all my films including RRR…We discussed a bit about it, and he is working on the story.”

Now, days after director Rajamouli confirmed an RRR sequel, his father and veteran screenwriter KV Vijayendra Prasad has shared an exciting update on the same. He has said that the film’s team has “cracked the sequel's premise.”

Earlier this year, during a special event to celebrate the thunderous success of RRR, Jr NTR had said fans’ demand for a sequel to RRR is fair and asked Rajamouli to take the story ahead. “I’m pretty sure that if he doesn’t make (a sequel), you’re going to kill him for sure. He needs to make RRR 2, there needs to be a conclusion to this also! I was speaking to a journalist, and I don’t know how but I said ‘RRR’ franchise. So, hopefully, it becomes true. He should make RRR 2,” the actor had said.

However, before Rajamouli and his team commence work on RRR 2, the filmmaker is set to kick-start his next directorial venture, which still remains untitled. The mega-budgeted film stars Tollywood superstar Mahesh Babu and is touted to be a globe-trotting action adventure. More details are expected to arrive soon.

'Kesari Chapter 2' opens to mixed reviews as Akshay Kumar takes on colonial injustice in court

Released on April 18, Kesari Chapter 2 steps into theatres with a heavy subject on its shoulders: the Jallianwala Bagh massacre and the courtroom fight that followed. Headlined by Akshay Kumar, alongside R. Madhavan and Ananya Panday, the film has drawn mixed reactions from viewers, with some calling it powerful and others labelling it sluggish.

Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi and backed by Dharma Productions, the film moves away from the battlefield narrative of its 2019 predecessor. Instead, it follows the legal efforts of C. Sankaran Nair, played by Akshay Kumar, who challenged the British Empire after the 1919 tragedy. R. Madhavan plays opposing counsel Neville McKinley, while Ananya Panday surprises many with a restrained, serious performance as Dilreet Gill.
