Deepika Padukone on her ambitious project Mahabharat

After months of speculations, Deepika Padukone recently made the announcement that she would play the character of Draupadi in the high-profile project Mahabharat, based on Indian epic the Mahabharata. The actress also announced that apart from playing the lead role, she would co-produce the film with Madhu Mantena.

It has been almost four months since Padukone made the official announcement, but we have not seen any development on the project ever since. However, the actress seems to be completely okay with the fact and says that she does not believe in making an announcement to create buzz.

“I am not someone who believes in making an announcement to create buzz. I was busy with Chhapaak (2020) promotions, so there was no time to sit down and discuss (this film). We have yet to ascertain the cast and crew,” says the actress who turned producer with her recently released film Chhapaak.

The actress goes on to add that making a film on the Mahabharata will take five times longer to execute, considering its massive scale. “Making the Mahabharat is not like making any other film. From the scale of production to the budget and costumes, it will take five times longer to execute. I cannot turn it around in a short time frame. It is my most ambitious project,” she concludes.

Meanwhile, Deepika Padukone will shortly be seen in filmmaker Kabir Khan’s much-awaited film ’83. The movie chronicles Indian cricket team’s unprecedented win against West Indies in the 1983 Cricket World Cup tournament in London. The sports drama stars Ranveer Singh in the role of Kapil Dev who was the captain of the winning team. Padukone plays his wife Romi Dev in the movie. ’83 is slated to arrive in cinemas on 10th April 2020.
