Deepika Padukone on the possibility of headlining multi-starrer masala films

Ever since making her debut with Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om (2007), Deepika Padukone has always tried to choose roles that are not only powerful but also different from what she has already done in previous films.

In initial years of her career, she featured in several successful multi-starrer movies such as Bachana Ae Haseeno (2008), Housefull (2010), Aarakshan (2011) and Desi Boyz (2011), to name a few. But it has been a while since she has not taken up a role in a multi-starrer masala Hindi movie.

Has Deepika Padukone decided against starring in multi-starrers after tasting huge success with solo hits like Goliyon Ki Raas Leela: Ram-Leela (2013), Bajirao Mastani (2015) and Padmaavat (2018)?

When a popular entertainment portal asked her if she was open to featuring in multi-starrer masala Hindi movies such as Sajid Nadiadwala’s Housefull franchise, or with Rohit Shetty’s female cop-universe, the actress replied, “It depends. I don’t think it is safe to label a film and say whether you are doing it or not.”

The actress went on to add that writers and filmmakers should first think of her in that context. “Firstly, I have to be thought of in that context. The writers and directors have to think of me in that context. They have to come to me with their script, their story, and I need to look at it as a whole. I don’t think I can make a decision about a film just based on random information. I think you’ve got to be very through in your information before you make a decision about any film.”

Deepika Padukone can be currently seen in filmmaker Meghna Gulzar’s latest offering Chhapaak. Based on the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal, the movie hit the marquee today on 10th January, 2020.
