Deepika Padukone to collaborate with Shakun Batra?

A couple of days ago, Deepika Padukone confirmed that she had found her next film which might start rolling in early 2020. Speaking at the opening session of Jio MAMI Movie Mela, the actress had said, “I have found a film that I am likely to do early next year but it is not light. It is still a messy romance. It is quite dark but still in the romantic space.”

Though Padukone had not revealed much about the makers of the movie at that time, buzz has it that Karan Johar will produce the upcoming venture under Dharma Productions. Filmmaker Shakun Batra, who is known for such successful films Ek Main Aur Ek Tu (2012) and Kapoor & Sons (2016), will call the shots for the forthcoming project. While, full details are awaited about the movie, this will be the first time the trio collaborates with one another.

Deepika Padukone was last seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s gobsmackingly epic period drama Padmaavat (2018). The film hit the silver screen in January 2018 and became an instant blockbuster. It has been close to two years since the actress has not been seen in any project.

The actress, meanwhile, is looking forward to the release of her next film Chhapaak. Directed by renowned filmmaker Meghna Gulzar, the movie is based on the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. Apart from playing the female lead, Deepika is also the co-producer of the film. Chhapaak releases on 10th January, 2020.

After Chhapaak, Deepika Padukone will be seen in Kabir Khan’s much-awaited film ‘83, co-starring husband Ranveer Singh. The movie, as the title suggests itself, is based on Indian cricket team’s unprecedented victory against West Indies in the 1983 World Cup tournament in London. ‘83 is scheduled to enter theatres on 10th April, 2020.
