Digital debut on the cards for Aishwarya Rai Bachchan?

OTT platforms are attracting established actors like never before. Over the past couple of years, we have seen several big names from Bollywood taking a plunge into the digital world. After Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Karisma Kapoor, among others, it seems the next star to make a transition to the web-space could be Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Yes, you read it right! According to fresh reports, Bachchan has given her nod to star in a Netflix Original which will be produced by Shah Rukh Khan under his production house Red Chillies Entertainment. This is indeed a great piece of news, if true. An official announcement is highly awaited.

Last seen in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Fanney Khan (2018), Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is currently working with celebrated filmmaker Mani Ratnam on his most ambitious project Ponniyin Selvan.

An adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy's historical period fictional novel of the same name, the film boasts of an ensemble cast. Apart from Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Ponniyin Selvan will also see South Indian actors Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, and Aditi Rao Hydari in significant characters.

This film, which is planned to be made into two parts, reunites Aishwarya Rai Bachchan with Mani Ratnam after a long gap of a decade. The two last worked together on the 2010 film Raavan which also featured Abhishek Bachchan and Vikram in lead roles.

Confirming the reunion, the actress had earlier said, “It is definitely an experience I am looking forward to for multiple reasons. Mani is my guru and he is one of the most amazing and brilliant directors of our country. I have had the honour, privilege and joy of working with him right in the beginning of my career and several times later. It was an easy yes to work with that kind of cinematic brilliance.”
