Dinesh Vijan on casting of Varun Dhawan in Ekkis

Varun Dhawan, who was most recently seen in T-Series Films’ dance flick Street Dancer 3D (2020), has some exciting projects on his platter. One of his upcoming films is Ekkis which will be helmed by ace storyteller Sriram Raghavan.

For the unversed, Ekkis is a biopic based on the life of Arun Khetarpal, the Indian Army officer and a posthumous recipient of the Param Vir Chakra, India's highest military decoration for valour in face of the enemy. The film reunites Varun Dhawan and Sriram Raghavan with producer Dinesh Vijan after their 2015 neo-noir action thriller Badlapur.

Speaking about Ekkis, Vijan says that he has never seen a director prep so much as Raghavan. “Sriram has a separate office because he needed a much bigger space. If you go to his office, you will feel you are entering a war zone. I have never seen a director prep so much,” said Dinesh Vijan whose latest offering Angrezi Medium (2020) suffered massive losses due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

The producer went on to add that he believes that Varun Dhawan is the right guy for his forthcoming production venture. “Varun called me this morning and said that I have never been more excited and surer about a film than this. It is nice to feel that way. Varun is the right guy for the film.”

Meanwhile, Varun Dhawan is looking forward to the release of his much-awaited comedy flick Coolie No. 1. Helmed by his filmmaker father David Dhawan, the movie is the official remake of Govinda and Karisma Kapoor’s 1995 cult comic-caper of the same name.

Also starring Sara Ali Khan in the lead role, Coolie No. 1 is scheduled to enter theatres on 1st May 2020. However, buzz has it that the makers may postpone the release date of the film keeping in mind the Coronavirus outbreak.
