Disha Patani collaborates with Ekta Kapoor

Disha Patani, who was most recently seen in Ali Abbas Zafar’s Bharat (2019), has been roped in to headline a film to be produced by Ekta Kapoor under Balaji Motion Pictures. Patani will be seen essaying the rile of a small-town Punjabi girl in the untitled film. This will be her first collaboration with content czarina Ekta Kapoor.

Writer Raaj Shaandilyaa, who is riding high on the massive success of his directorial debut Dream Girl (2019), will write the new film for Ekta Kapoor, while Ashima Chibber has come onboard to call the shots.

Though nothing much is known about the project at the moment, we hear that it will be high on concept just like Dream Girl which saw Ayushmann Khurrana impersonating the voice of a girl. This will be the first big lead role for Disha Patani who made her acting debut with M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story (2016). The actress is certainly ecstatic to have bagged a movie with the content queen Ekta Kapoor who rules all platforms of entertainment.

Confirming the development, Ekta Kapoor revealed what led her to sign Disha Patani for the role. "Disha has a strong connect with the youth and I couldn't think of anyone else who could portray the wild yet innocent, and crazy yet sensible character. To add to that, Disha's oomph takes it notches higher,” she said.

Kapoor added that she does not like to label her films as women-centric. "If we don't call a regular film 'male-centric', why do we put all films that have women at the center of them into one bracket? I would rather say that my next is a crackling comedy with Disha in the lead."
