The grieving family of a great-grandmother who was killed after being stuck by a lorry in Birmingham paid tribute to the 80-year-old her describing her as a “wonderful human being.”
Malkeet Kaur Surdhar was brutally injured in the collision in Soho Road, Handsworth, at around 10.45am last Tuesday (15).
Her family described her as a “devoted wife, beloved mother, wonderful sister, caring grandmother, compassionate great grandmother and a wonderful human being”.
In a statement they said: “She was strong willed, full of fierce loyalty for her loved ones and a fighter until her very last breath. Please don’t let her death be in vain and cherish your loved ones everyday and let them know.
“Whilst we ask the public to respect our privacy at this difficult time, we would like to take this opportunity to appeal to anyone and everyone who may have seen something no matter how big or small it may seem, that may be of assistance to the police.
“From one human being to another we appeal for witnesses so that she may rest in peace and our family can grieve.”
They added their gratitude to everyone who offered assistance following the accident.
A pharmacist at a nearby chemist had rushed to give Surdhar first aid until paramedics arrived, but unfortunately nothing could be done to save her and she died at Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
The lorry driver is helping officers with their enquiries and police are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time.
Sergeant Chris Ridge, from the Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We are still trying to piece together the circumstances of this collision. I would urge anyone with information who hasn’t come forward so far to get in contact.”
