Father gives rat poison in ice cream to three children in Mumbai, one dies

A SIX-YEAR-OLD boy died while two of his siblings were undergoing treatment in a hospital after their father allegedly added rat poison to their ice cream following a dispute with his wife. The tragic incident happened in Mumbai, the capital of the western Indian state of Maharashtra. The man is absconding.

According to police sources, the man named Ali Naushad Ansari, 27, gave the poison-laced ice cream to the kids on June 25 but the incident came to light on Tuesday (29) when one of the children died at the state-run Sion Hospital and the doctors consequently informed the authorities at the Mankhurd police station in Mumbai's suburbs.

Nazia Begum, Ansari’s wife, told the police that she and her husband, who is a daily wage worker, often fought over financial matters. She said on June 25, she left their home at Sathe Nagar in Mankhurd after yet another quarrel and went to her sister’s place. It was then when Ansari allegedly took the children, two boys and a girl, out promising ice cream and gave them poison, Nazia told the police.

Nazia also said she found the kids complaining of stomach pain on returning home and took them to the hospital.

The police also recorded statements of the two surviving kids. A case has been registered against Ansari under sections of murder and attempt to murder.
