From Taylor Swift to Kim Kardashian, here’re worst celebrity private jet polluters according to research

A private jet is the most popular mode of transport among celebrities. Using private jets for long distances is fine, but what is problematic is celebrities using jets for short journeys instead of environment-friendly methods of transportation.

According to a report from UK-based digital marketing agency Yard, through their private jet usage, the average celebrity has created 3256.36 tonnes of CO2 emissions, which is over 465 times more than the regular person who averages just seven tonnes per year flying commercially.

Taylor Swift's private jet has emitted more carbon than any other celebrity's plane this year. Floyd Mayweather ranks second on the list. He emitted 7,076.8 tonnes of CO2 from his private jet this year. Jay-Z’s jet has taken 136 flights, emitting 6,981.3 tonnes of CO2 this year.

While the top three spots have been occupied by Swift, Mayweather, and Jay-Z, other celebrity jets that contributed to the most carbon emissions were owned by Alex Rodriguez, Blake Shelton, Steven Spielberg, Kim Kardashian, Mark Wahlberg, Oprah Winfrey, and Travis Scott.

US director Steven Spielberg’s jet has flown 61 times this year, emitting 4,465 tonnes of CO2. He has the longest average flight time on this list at one hour 47 minutes.

In 2022 alone, Kim Kardashian’s jet emitted 4268.5 tonnes of carbon emissions over 57 flights which is 609.8 times more than the average person emits in a year. Her average flight time is 85.49 minutes, for an average journey length of 99.78 miles with her shortest flight just a mere 23 minutes within California.

Multi-billionaire television host Oprah Winfrey is ninth on the list and has emitted around 3,493.17 tonnes of CO2 using her private jet this year.

Kylie Jenner-owned private jet came in at the 19th spot. That owned by Jim Carrey and Tom Cruise came at number 18th and 20th respectively while Drake's came in at number 16th spot.

Hans Zimmer is known for his grand, immersive film scores, but when it comes to his tools, he keeps things surprisingly simple. In a recent interview with musician and YouTuber Rick Beato, Zimmer revealed that nearly all his compositions are crafted using just one software synthesiser—the u-he ZebraHZ.

Zimmer’s conversation with Beato was part of the promotion for his latest project, Hans Zimmer & Friends: Diamond in the Desert, a concert film and documentary blending live performances with behind-the-scenes insights. While the discussion covered various aspects of his career, from working on Inception and Dune to overcoming stage fright (with a little help from Paul McCartney), one of the most fascinating takeaways was his approach to technology in music production.

Gal Gadot's Walk of Fame ceremony obstructed by Pro-Palestinian protests

Hollywood actor Gal Gadot, known globally for her roles in Wonder Woman and the Fast & Furious franchise, was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. What was supposed to be a celebratory occasion turned tense as both pro-Palestinian and pro-Israeli protesters clashed outside the venue. The event, which recognised Gadot's contributions to the film industry, became a focal point for political dissent amidst the ongoing Gaza conflict.

Protests break out at the ceremony

The ceremony was overshadowed by dozens of protesters who gathered near the event just before its conclusion. Pro-Palestinian demonstrators carried signs with slogans such as "Heroes Fight Like Palestinians," "No Other Land Won Oscar," and "Viva Viva Palestina." Their messages underscored solidarity with Palestinians in the ongoing Gaza-Israel conflict and opposition to Gadot, who is seen as a symbol of Israeli nationalism by some protestors.
