Here’s why Farah Khan wants to remake her favourite films

Earlier this year, choreographer-turned-filmmaker Farah Khan joined forces with Rohit Shetty for her next directorial venture. 2019 is about to end in a couple of weeks from now, but the hugely anticipated project is yet to take off. Buzz has it that Farah Khan is remaking the 1982 classic Satte Pe Satta, which originally starred Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini in lead roles.

However, when asked for a confirmation on the remake of Satte Pe Satta, Farah Khan said, “Till we announce what we are making, what is the title, who all are in the movie, everything else is just rumour and speculation which we don’t even want to refute because there is no point.”

The award-winning choreographer and director was speaking at a panel discussion organized by Royal Stag Barrel Select Large Short Films in Delhi. Farah also revealed why she is okay with the idea of remaking old films.

“At one point of time, I used to look down upon remakes and ask, ‘Why is he doing this?’ But now I think it is worldwide. I realized that after having children… My kids haven’t watched the movies that I loved in my childhood or when I was growing up. They are not going to watch them now because the movies are dated, so why not give a fresh spin if the story is interesting or something… You can modernize it and make it for today’s audiences,” said Farah Khan, adding, “Motherhood has changed a lot in my life, my outlook.”

Farah Khan made her directorial debut with Main Hoon Na (2005). Starring Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role, the film turned out to be a massive hit at the box-office. She followed it up with the reincarnation drama Om Shanti Om (2007) and launched Deepika Padukone alongside Shah Rukh Khan. The movie shattered several box-office records and became one of the highest grossing films of the year. Her last directorial was Happy New Year (2014) with SRK in the lead.

Amazon’s ‘God of War’ reset proves Hollywood can’t get video game adaptations right

Highlights

  • Dave Bautista is taking over as Kratos after Ryan Hurst's injury forced Amazon to recast the role.
  • The series is effectively starting again, with none of the footage from the original production being used.
  • The major reset puts fresh pressure on Amazon's attempt to adapt one of gaming's most recognisable franchises.

Hollywood's relationship with video game adaptations has changed considerably in recent years. Shows such as The Last of Us and Fallout have demonstrated that games can translate successfully to television when their characters and worlds are treated with care. Amazon's God of War, however, has already encountered a production setback that makes its journey to the screen considerably more complicated.

Dave Bautista has closed his deal to play Kratos in the Prime Video series after Ryan Hurst, who was originally cast in the role, suffered a serious on-set injury. Hurst reportedly tore his bicep while performing a stunt in June, around four months into filming. Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television subsequently decided to recast the central role.
