India recall Ajinkya Rahane for World Test final

Ajinkya Rahane earned a recall on Tuesday (25) to India's squad for the World Test Championship final against Australia in June.

Indian selectors named a 15-man squad led by skipper Rohit Sharma for the title clash at The Oval on June 7-11.

Batsman Rahane, who last played a Test in January 2022, makes a comeback after an excellent showing in the IPL where he hit a match-winning 71 not out off 29 balls for Chennai Super Kings on Sunday (23).

The usually sedate Rahane has surprised with a newfound explosiveness and has a strike-rate of over 199 in five IPL matches this season.

T20 sensation Suryakumar Yadav has been dropped. He made the five-day team for Australia's recent visit and played his only Test in Nagpur.

Struggling batsman K L Rahul keeps his place after he was dropped from the XI for the final two Australia Tests.

Pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah and wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant are not included because of long-term injuries.

Mohammed Shami leads the pace attack alongside Mohammed Siraj, while K.S. Bharat remains the lone wicketkeeper.

It will be India's second WTC final after they lost the decider to New Zealand in the inaugural edition in 2021.

Michael Gove expected to join House of Lords

Akshay Kumar hits back at Jaya Bachchan’s ‘flop film’ remark: ‘Only a fool would criticise such films’

At a press event for his upcoming film Kesari Chapter 2, Akshay Kumar was asked about recent remarks made by veteran actor and politician Jaya Bachchan, who criticised the title of his 2017 movie Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. Jaya Bachchan had dismissed the film during a public interaction, saying she would never watch a movie with such a title. “Is that even a name for a film?” she asked the audience, adding that the film was a “flop” based on the crowd’s lukewarm response when asked if they had seen it.

Caught off guard, Akshay Kumar initially said he wasn’t aware of the comment but responded with a measured tone: “If she’s said something, maybe she’s right. If making Toilet: Ek Prem Katha was a mistake, then I’ll accept that.”
However, he also stood by the intention behind the film. “I’ve made movies like Pad Man, Airlift, Kesari, all with a purpose. I make these films with full honesty. They try to raise awareness, and I believe that counts,” he added. He stressed that films like Toilet and Pad Man are still used by the government to educate people in villages, showing their long-term impact.
