Indian cricket has faced a debacle on Tuesday (11) when New Zealand won the third and the final match of the three-match ODI series. This is the first ODI series whitewash for India in 31 years.
It was the first time India has been whitewashed in a bilateral ODI series of three or more matches since 1989. Tuesday's defeat was the only time it has ever happened against New Zealand.
India was beaten 5-0 by the West Indies back in 1989 in an away assignment.
Interestingly, the Indian team had enjoyed a Twenty20 series whitewash (5-0) against Kiwis only a few days ago.
Indian captain Virat Kohli criticised his team's ability to cope under pressure.
"We didn't deserve to be on the winning side at all in the series. We haven't played so badly, but if you don't grab chances at this level then teams are going to hurt you," Kohli said.
On Tuesday, New Zealand beat India by five wickets. A ton by KL Rahul helped India to score 296 for seven.
Henry Nicholls scored 80 in 103 balls and Martin Guptill made 66 off 46 as the Black Caps scored 300 for five in 47.1 overs.
