INDIA'S Manipur state government has decided to take action against two who declared Manipur's 'government-in-exile' in the UK.
The state government has registered a police complaint and asked for a probe by a federal investigation agency.
Manipur’s move has come after two people of the state - Yamben Biren and Narengbam Samarjit - fled the UK and held a press conference in London on Tuesday (29) and declared the formation of Manipur's 'government-in-exile' there.
The duo has claimed that they have political asylum in the UK since August 2019.
They also claimed they have written to the British prime minister about the formation of a 'government-in-exile'.
Biren, who claimed to be the chief minister of 'Manipur-in-exile' and Samarjit, claiming to be the 'Minister of External Affairs and Defence of Manipur State Council' said that they were speaking on behalf of 'Maharaja of Manipur' Leishemba Sanajaoba.
Meanwhile, Manipur's King Leishemba Sanajaoba rejected the claims of the duo that he has 'authorised' them to establish a government-in-exile.
Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh stated that a case has already been filed against the duo for "waging a war against the state".
The north-eastern state has also taken up the issue with the country’s home ministry and the Prime Minister's Office today asking for a probe by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
NIA is an anti-terror agency formed to combat terrorism in India.
