Isha Ambani's wedding was theme for party in Pakistan

Mukesh Ambani's daughter Isha Ambani's wedding was one of the biggest events of 2018, and a celebrity in Pakistan was so inspired by the event that she made it the theme for her party.

Aliya Zaidi, a former Pakistani supermodel, decided to make the Ambani wedding the theme for her party because it was what everyone was talking about at the time.

"It was the pulse - the Ambani wedding was all everyone was talking about," she told The Print. "There is an affinity for culture, tradition, fashion and music. Much like the Ambani wedding, Pakistani weddings also go on for days. For Pakistanis, the wedding was an ideal time to catch a glimpse of their favourite Bollywood stars."

According to reports, party props included a "$20 million elephant" and "26 Karat Gold wall" made of glitter. It also had people wearing masks of their favourite stars and special orchids from Thailand.

Isha's wedding was a star-studded event that saw a host of celebrities, from Bollywood to politics, in attendance.

Many took to Instagram to share moments from the fairy-tale wedding. For instance, Aishwarya Rai took to the photo-sharing app to share a family picture featuring her husband Abhishek Bachchan and daughter Aaradhya.

Shweta Bachchan, too, shared a series of pictures on her Instagram account. The first picture, a family photo, shows her with Amitabh Bachchan, mother Jaya Bachchan and daughter Navya. She captioned it as, “Mine.”

Isha's wedding festivities began in September with a three-day lavish engagement ceremony in the picturesque Lake Como in Italy. The engagement festivities were also attended by a number of Bollywood stars.

Education or imposition? Tamil Nadu battles India government over Hindi in schools

A war of words has erupted between Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister MK Stalin and the federal government over the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which recommends a three-language formula in schools, with two of the three being native to India. Stalin has voiced strong objections, claiming that the policy could lead to the imposition of Hindi, a northern Indian language, in non-Hindi-speaking states like Tamil Nadu. The issue has reignited old tensions between southern states and the central government over the privileging of Hindi.

Historical resistance to Hindi

Tamil Nadu has a deep-rooted history of opposing the promotion of Hindi, dating back to the 1960s. Protests broke out in the state when the federal government attempted to make Hindi the sole official language, leading to a compromise that allowed the continued use of English. Language in Tamil Nadu is not merely a means of communication but a powerful symbol of cultural identity. Tamil, one of the oldest living languages in the world, is a source of pride for the state’s people. As a result, any perceived threat to its prominence is met with strong resistance.
