Ishq Vishq sequel put on the backburner

Reports about a possible sequel to the 2003 surprise hit film Ishq Vishk have been doing the rounds for more than four years now. However, if latest reports are to be believed, the makers have decided against it as they could not find the right script for the sequel.

Directed by Ken Ghosh, Ishq Vishk launched the careers of superstar Shahid Kapoor and Shenaz Treasurywala. Actress Amrita Rao was also a part of the movie as the female lead. The film was accepted well by the young generation and has seen countless repeats on television ever since its release.

The makers wanted to cash in on the huge popularity of the film by creating a sequel to it. But the project could never take off due to one reason or the other. In 2014, it was learned that the producers had approached Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra for the sequel, but in absence of a taut script, it was eventually put on the back burner.

In 2016, reports about Ishq Vishk sequel hit the headlines again when a source was quoted as saying, “The makers have finally started working on the sequel and it will go on floors from January (2017) in Shimla. Ken, who was earlier supposed to direct the movie isn’t onboard this time. Ami Roy, cinematographer of Ishq Vishk will be marking his directorial debut with it. Actor Girish Kumar’s cousin, Raveena, will be making her debut as the female lead. The male lead hasn’t been signed yet.”

However, as things stand today, the makers have dropped the idea of making a sequel to Ishq Vishk. They are currently focusing on their next venture, Race 3, which stars Salman Khan and Jacqueline Fernandez in the lead roles.
