‘It’s been luxury working with different directors and different cast,’ says Thor Love and Thunder actor Chris Hemsworth

Since 2011's origin story Thor, the Australian actor has appeared as the Marvel superhero in The Avengers, Thor: The Dark World, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame.

‘It’s been luxury working with different directors and different cast,’ says Thor Love and Thunder actor Chris Hemsworth

Eight films and over a decade later, Hollywood star Chris Hemsworth says from being an “obvious” comic book superhero, Thor has evolved into a character that embodies a lot of his personality traits.

Since 2011’s origin story Thor, the Australian actor has appeared as the Marvel superhero in The Avengers, Thor: The Dark World, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame.

The 38-year-old actor believes the makers had to rely a lot on the set “rules and guidelines” while making the initial few films, but that changed when filmmaker Taika Waititi came on board to direct Ragnarok.

“There’s obviously a familiarity, but he has changed so dramatically over the years as I have. And that’s what has been kind of fun as the character’s evolution and my opinions sort of melded in and crossed paths,” the actor said at a global press conference of Thor: Love and Thunder.

“The origin story is not the easiest but the obvious one and there’s a sort of set of rules and guidelines. After that, the challenge is, how do you recreate the character? And that’s been the luxury, working with different directors and different cast and they all bring out something very different in you,” he added.

As Chris Hemsworth returns as the God of Thunder in the upcoming standalone film, the actor said Taiki Waititi brought out the “immature, young adolescent” quality in the character which is close to what he is in real life.

“Since Taika got involved, he brought out the immature, young adolescent quality that I embody and so does Thor now, which he didn’t in the original films. It was exciting and fresh. It was about having fun. Him (Thor) embodying this place as a child, enjoying and being caught up in the wonder and the fascination was fun. I feel like the character has probably become more me over the years and I hope in a fun way,” he said.

Waititi, often credited for revitalising the Thor franchise by infusing humour and irreverence into the character, said it was challenging for him to draw parallels between Thor and Hemsworth.

“When you meet Chris, it is very hard to figure out how to make them relatable. And that was the big challenge. His personality, his energy, and who he is, is the kind of person that I’d want to be on an adventure with. He is someone who you can trust, who will be there to look after you, like a real-life hero. So, I just wanted to tap into those qualities and sort of making Thor more Chris,” the writer-director said.

Set after the events of Avengers: Endgame, Thor: Love and Thunder will see the Asgardian God in search of inner peace, but he must return to action and recruit Valkyrie, Korg, and Jane Foster, who has become the Mighty Thor, to stop Gorr the God Butcher from eliminating all gods.

Oscar-winner Natalie Portman is returning as Jane along with Tessa Thompson who reprises her role of Valkyrie. Critically-acclaimed actor Christian Bale is making his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut with the project, starring as antagonist Gorr.

Bale, who has made a career out of essaying complex characters, said it was a pleasure to play the villain as Waititi could tap into the depth of the character without losing on humour.

“There’s a great pleasure in playing a villain. It’s a lot easier to play a villain than it is to play a hero. Chris had a tougher job. Everyone is fascinated with bad guys immediately and then the beauty of it is that Taika can make it bloody hilarious and really moving as well in this story,” he added. Hemsworth said while Gorr may be the villain, the vulnerability with which Bale has portrayed it on screen is “incredible”.

“There is an empathetic quality, there’s vulnerability, and you find yourself thinking that what he is doing is wrong, but I get the motivation behind it,” the actor said.

Thor: Love and Thunder is produced by Kevin Feige-led Marvel Studios. It will release in India in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam on July 7.

Naga Chaitanya reacts to a fan saying he can’t act – Here’s what he had to say!

Naga Chaitanya, known for his charm and candidness, recently found himself in the spotlight during a fun Q&A session with his Thandel co-star Sai Pallavi. The actor, who is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film, faced a cheeky question from a fan that left everyone laughing.

When Sai Pallavi read out a fan’s question, “Acting epudu nerchukuntav? (When will you learn acting?)” Chaitanya appeared stunned for a brief moment, staring blankly at the camera as if processing the unexpected question. He then responded with a mix of surprise and humour, Epudu nerchukuntav enti? (What do you mean, when will I learn?)”

Instead of getting defensive, the Thandelstar took it in stride and responded with a smile: "Honestly, acting is a continuous process. You never fully learn it; you keep growing with every project. If you think you’ve mastered it, that’s when you stop progressing. So, I’m still learning every single day."

While some appreciated his humility, others found the moment hilarious. Social media was soon buzzing with reactions, with many praising Chaitanya for handling the question with grace rather than taking offence. Some fans even tagged the person who originally asked the question, letting them know their comment had made its way to the actor.

This isn’t the first time Chaitanya has addressed criticism. In a recent interview, he opened up about dealing with trolls, admitting that while it bothered him early in his career, he has learnt to ignore the noise. “Clarifying things only leads to more drama. It’s a vicious cycle,” he said, adding that he now focuses on his work rather than responding to negativity.

Chaitanya’s upcoming film, Thandel, marks his third collaboration with director Chandoo Mondeti and his second pairing with Sai Pallavi after their hit film Love story. The survival drama, set to release on February 7, has already generated buzz, with fans eagerly waiting to see the duo’s chemistry on screen once again.

Having faced a mixed bag of box office results in recent years, Thandel is a crucial release for Chaitanya. Fans are eager to see if this film will mark a new chapter in his career and whether his continuous learning process pays off on the big screen.

'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' revival confirmed: Sarah Michelle Gellar returns for a new era

Sarah Michelle Gellar has finally answered the call of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans and it’s about time. After years of “will they, won’t they” rumours, she’s confirmed that a revival is officially happening. “I’ve always heard the fans,” she said, making it clear she wouldn’t come back unless it felt right. Now, with a fresh twist on the Slayer story and a killer creative team, the project is moving forward, and fans are already dusting off their stakes in excitement.

The idea for the revival started three years ago when producer Gail Berman set up what was supposed to be a quick coffee chat between Gellar and Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao. What was meant to be 20 minutes turned into a four-hour conversation about Buffy’s legacy and why it still matters. At first, Gellar wasn’t sold on the idea, but as talks continued with Zhao and writers Nora and Lilla Zuckerman, she started to see the potential.
