Jackky Bhagnani bags KriArj Entertainment’s Anandwaa

One of the rapidly emerging film studios in Bollywood, KriArj Entertainment currently has around half a dozen projects on its platter, including Parmanu: The Story Of Pokhran, Pari, Padman, Fanne Khan, Kedarnath and Batti Gul Meter Chalu. Despite having so many films at various stages of production, the studio is not keeping calm and has decided to invest in many more projects, one of them being a satire film titled Anandwaa.

The film revolves around a man who decides to handle a life-changing situation with humour rather than dejection. The studio has roped in Jackky Bhagnani to play the male lead in the movie. The actor was last seen in the 2015 film Welcome 2 Karachi.


Talking about why she cast Jackky in the film, producer Prernaa Arora says, "Jackky was our first choice because we felt he would be able to portray the role of Anandwaa to perfection. There is a sensitivity required with the right comic timing which Jackky is very good at. He is someone I have believed in from day one and he is very hard working. We are very excited about this project and the film goes on the floors early 2018."

Anandwaa will be directed by Abir Sengupta, who is known for his debut Bengali film Jomer Raja Dilo Bor. The director says that he has written this script as homage to Rajesh Khanna’s unforgettable film, Anand. "I have written this script as a homage to the cult classic Anand and it's in no way a remake. It's about the journey of a common man Anandwaa who learns to make the most of his life after dealing with a life-altering situation," he says.

Anandwaa will go on floors in February 2018. The whole film will be shot in Mumbai.

Northern Ireland approves extension of post-Brexit trade rules

NORTHERN Ireland’s devolved government has voted to continue implementing post-Brexit trading arrangements under the Windsor Framework, a deal signed between London and the European Union in February 2023.

'Covid bereavement rates in Scotland highest among Asians'

THE bereavement rates due to Covid in Scotland have been highest among those identifying with ‘Any other’ ethnic group (68 per cent), followed by Indians (44 per cent) and Pakistanis (38 per cent), a new study revealed. This is significantly higher than the national average of around 25 per cent.

Ethnic groups were found to be two-and-a-half times more likely to have experienced the loss of a close family member during the Covid crisis.
