Kangana Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao’s Mental Hai Kya postponed?

According to reports, Kangana Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao’s much-awaited film Mental Hai Kya is set to face yet another delay in its release date. The movie has been postponed thrice from March to May to July. The latest reports suggest that the makers may have to defer its release once again due to objections it has been facing over its title.

Also starring Amyra Dastur in an important role, Mental Hai Kya was slated to arrive in cinemas on 26th June. However, ahead of its theatrical release, the film has come under fire by the Indian Psychiatrist Society (IPS) regarding the flippant treatment of mental illness the film has depicted in its communication so far. A source told a publication, “There’s no way the film can go with the current title. It will have to change.”

Talking about the movie, Amyra Dastur, who reportedly plays the onscreen girlfriend of talented actor Rajkummar Rao, told a newswire, "This film is definitely going to shock and awe our audience especially because I truly feel that no one has seen this side of acting from the cast before."

Mental Hai Kya, produced by Ekta Kapoor under the banner of Balaji Motion Pictures, is an erotic black comedy. It is directed by well-known South Indian filmmaker Prakash Kovelamudi from a screenplay written by Kanika Dhillon. Shailesh R Singh of Karma Media & Entertainment is the co-producer.

The film reunites Kangana Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao after a huge gap of 5 years. Both were last seen together in filmmaker Vikas Bahl’s 2014 coming-of-age film Queen. The actress won her second National Film Award for her excellent performance in the Phantom Films’ production.
