Karan Johar responds to news surrounding Takht

Announced in 2018, Takht is one of the most ambitious projects of filmmaker Karan Johar. Starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Bhumi Pednekar, Janhvi Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Vicky Kaushal and Anil Kapoor in central characters, the period drama is based on two warring brothers of the Moghul empire. According to reports, Ranveer will essay the character of Dara Shikoh, while Vicky will be seen in the role of Aurangzeb in the movie.

Takht was expected to mount the shooting floor in 2019, but the project could not take off on time for a variety of reasons. Later, KJo informed that the historical drama would roll in the second quarter of 2020. However, the shooting schedule of the movie went for a complete toss due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Over the past few weeks, several rumours about Takht have been floating around. Recently, it emerged that Fox Star Studios backed out of the film due to the budget issues. Yesterday, several media outlets reported that Dharma Productions has now teamed up with T-Series Films to co-produce the big-ticket venture.

However, Karan Johar has taken to Twitter to quash such baseless rumours. He said, “News articles and speculations making the rounds about the acquisition of TAKHT are baseless and untrue! I would request media houses to focus on more relevant and critical issues that plague our country and refrain from incorrect reportage!”

With productions of all films and television shows suspended in the wake of the Coronavirus outbreak, it remains to be seen when will the situation return to normalcy. We hope Takht goes before cameras as soon as the 21-day lockdown imposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi comes to an end.
