Legha: Rouge girl returns

The singer is looking forward to catching up on lost time with more marvellous music releases

Legha: Rouge girl returns

BRITISH girl group Rouge made a great impact during a whirlwind time in the music industry.

For many fans, the pop act’s giant heartbeat was singer/songwriter Legha and why they were sorry to see her take a step back after the trio finally broke up. After a long break, the top talent with the strikingly beautiful looks has returned to the music spot - light with songs like ABC and the recently released Woah. What makes the terrific tracks extra special is that they have been masterminded by ace music producer Dr Zeus, who had given Rouge their biggest hit Don’t Be Shy.

Now very much back doing what she loves, Legha is looking forward to catching up on lost time with more marvellous music releases and was happy to have a quick catch up with Eastern Eye again.

How do you reflect on your journey with Rouge?

I look back and feel grateful for the experience, amazing journey and path I am still on. Music is my first love and the beautiful souls I have encountered on this journey have become my family who I love dearly. I couldn’t imagine my life without them and to be honest, I don’t want to.

How do you feel today about that group not reaching its potential?

The old saying ‘nothing lasts forever’ comes to mind. But then again, even the biggest bands like Destiny’s Child and N-Sync had a shelf life but then the artists went on to have very successful solo careers.

What made you take a long break from music?

I was searching for inspiration, and being a deep soul myself I can’t just make music for the sake of it.

I’m also a firm believer that art doesn’t have a timeline and it will always be appreciated when it has substance.

What has it been like teaming up with Dr Zeus again, who gave Rouge their biggest hit?

Dr Zeus is a genius, gentleman and an absolute pleasure to work with. His family has always treated me with love. I truly appreciate the OG and all he has done for me. He is a pioneer in his craft, and we should all give him his flowers.

What do you most love about the new song Woah you all have created?

It’s a song for all occasions. You can enjoy this banger on the dance floor as well as in your car. It’s upbeat and fun for all.

Who are you hoping the track connects with? This is a track for anybody and everybody. I have always believed that music has no boundaries.

What is the plan going forward?

Right now, I am just enjoying the process and ex - pressing myself through my music. I am blessed to be in such a position in my life.

Are you getting new songs ready and what can we expect?

I can’t say too much but I can promise you there is plenty in store for all the music lovers out there. I really appreciate you all being patient with me and supporting me always.

You have always been a great songwriter. Will you be doing more of that?

Absolutely. I love having a pen and pad in my hand and letting my imagination run wild. It’s actually my favourite thing to do. I am also collaborating with other writers and understanding their process of writing is very inspiring to me.

What inspires you today?

Everything and anything inspires. My eyes only see the art in life. I truly am the one to dance in the rain.

What music dominates your personal playlist?

I love all genres of music, but I must say the 1980s was by far my favourite decade of music. The artists from that time are all in my heart forever.

If you could master something new in music, what would it be?

If only I continued my piano playing, as this instrument goes hand in hand with writing music.

As someone who had a rollercoaster start, what advice would you give new artists?

Always stay humble and be kind to everyone on the way up as you might have to see them on the way down. It’s important to be a good person first before being a star of any sort.

What does music mean to you today?

Music is the blood that flows through my veins. Music is the spark in my soul. Music is everything to me – this life is a dance after all.
