M Night Shyamalan’s Knock at the Cabin receives positive first reactions; critics call it ‘one of the best films’ of his career

Night Shyamalan’s latest film Knock at the Cabin, which is based on the 2018 novel The Cabin at the End of the World, has received positive first reactions. The film screened on January 25 ahead of its theatrical release on February 3.

Knock at the Cabin, which marks the talented and sometimes controversial director’s return to the silver screen following his 2021 release Old, revolves around a gay couple, played by Jonathan Groff and Ben Aldridge, and their daughter as they are taken hostage by four armed strangers while on vacation at a cabin in the woods. The strangers then inform the family that they have been chosen for a globally important mission. The family must decide on one of them to sacrifice or the world will come to an end. Early reviews that the film has received so far are very positive.

The Hollywood Reporter’s Brian Davids describes the film as “the work of a true artist.” “It's one of the best films of M. Night Shyamalan's career, and I haven't stopped thinking about it the last 10 days,” he adds.

Erik Davis tweets that he was “happy to report that M. Night Shyamalan’s Knock At The Cabin is a real deal nail-biter – startling & captivating from start to finish. It’s lean & mean, and a perfect little edge-of-your-seat thriller for early February. A BIG win for M. Night, IMO. Highly recommend.”

Asyia Iftikhar, who writes for PinkNews, said she was “floored” by the film and especially praised Ben Aldridge and Jonathan Groff’s chemistry as the couple at the center of it.

Elijah Wood reveals ‘Lord of the Rings’ pay wasn’t life-changing despite £2.2 billion success

Elijah Wood has shed light on an often-overlooked aspect of Hollywood blockbusters: the financial realities for actors in major franchises. Despite the Lord of the Rings trilogy raking in nearly £2.2 billion (₹23,000 crore) worldwide, Wood, who played the lead role of Frodo Baggins, revealed that the cast did not receive the kind of paycheques that would guarantee lifelong financial security.

Speaking at the Texas Film Awards, Wood explained that because all three films were shot back-to-back, the actors never had the chance to renegotiate their contracts as the series became a global phenomenon. “It wasn’t the kind of payday where you could sit back and never work again,” he said.
