MPs tell Yorkshire to publish findings into Rafiq's racism allegations

MPs have called on Yorkshire to publish the findings of the club's report into allegations of racism made by former player Azeem Rafiq.

According to the report which was published by the county last month said that several of the allegations made by Rafiq had been upheld and also found the former player was a victim of “inappropriate behaviour”.

“We are very surprised that this report has not been published by the Yorkshire County Cricket Club, given the seriousness of the allegations of racism which span more than a decade and the fact that it has taken almost three years to reach this point," Julian Knight, chairman of the digital, culture, media and sport committee, was quoted as saying.

“Given that YCCC said in its statement that several allegations made against the club had been upheld, and that Azeem Rafiq had been a victim of inappropriate behaviour, it is crucial that the process, the report and its full findings are made public and open to scrutiny. He deserves no less.”

A 100-page report, which was delivered to the club’s executives admitted that the player had been a victim of “clearly unacceptable” conduct. However, Rafiq accused the county of “fudging” a public apology at the end of a 10-month investigation into his allegations of institutional racism.

However, Yorkshire has said that it aims “to publish as much of the report and recommendations as we are able, subject to any legal restraints on doing so, in the coming weeks”, but is yet to do so.
