EXCLUSIVE: Next-Gen superstar Varun turns the tables on his fans

Actor Varun Dhawan has some of the most adoring fans and he is equally dedicated to them. The popular star regularly praises his admirers and is hoping to deliver for them again with his latest film Sui Dhaaga: Made In India, which sees him playing a tailor who fights against the odds to realise his dream.

Eastern Eye teamed up with production house Yash Raj Films and got Varun to turn the tables on his fans by setting them questions. Then online fan club Twitter: @VarunDhawan_FC helped us find super fans to answer the questions.

What did you like most about the Sui Dhaaga trailer?

Koina Das (@WonderlandVarun): The Sui Dhaaga trailer is very unique. The emotions and plight of Mauji and Mamta seem very real and we will be able to relate in our own ways, to the ups and downs of achieving our dreams. I really like how it was shot and the acting by you (Varun), Anushka Sharma and all cast members are very praise-worthy. I look forward to watching the film.

Why are you looking forward to watching the film?

Zainab Khan (@Zaini_VD): Sui Dhaaga brings two of my favourite actors together! It is also an exceptional portrayal of a couple’s relatable and truly inspirational journey, which makes one look forward to watching. The positivity of Mauji’s character is incredible! The theme is so motivating. It gives one hope that anything can be achieved if you strive and are dedicated. From impossible to unstoppable, we are proud of Mauji and Mamta’s journey and aspire to be like them.

Sui Dhaaga is an inspirational story, but who or what inspires you?

Sahithya Reddy (@SweetieSayz): My mother is my strength and inspiration. She used to do embroidery and tailoring as a hobby during my childhood, which is the reason Sui Dhaaga appealed to me. I especially like her handmade designs. Another inspiration is MS Dhoni. His calm and collected nature, simplicity, leadership quality and positive attitude have inspired me greatly in my daily life.

My character is a skilled tailor, but what kind of outfits would you demand if you were a customer?

Parnika (@parnika_18): As a customer, I would like a stitched ‘Dhawan And Only’ t-shirt with ‘Sab Badhiya Hai’ written on the back of it using Sui Dhaaga! This film has inspired many people and I’m proud of the fact that my idol is associated with such a film. Mauji has inspired me already!

I am a big movie buff, but what films do you enjoy watching most?

Nahi (@taani_varun): So am I, Varun! I particularly enjoy watching rom-coms and thrillers the most. Rom-coms like Badrinath Ki Dulhania have everything I want in a film and just give me feel-good vibes. Thrillers like Kahaani and Badlapur are amazing to watch because they always keep me on the edge of my seat. There is so much suspense and I love that! I really can’t wait to see you sign more thrillers because I know how much you love being a part of them too.

Which of my film performances has been your favourite?

Monami (@Monami_tzznim): I love Dan the most, apart from Badri and Raghu! Dan is someone with a pure, golden heart. He is not a human, but an angel because he is very sweet and deserves all the happiness in the world. I have a big soft spot for Dan and am emotionally attached to this character of yours. He will always be my most favourite!

What kind of role would you love to see me play?

Tahreem Zahid (@tahreen_zahid): I would love to see you play a negative role. I think that is the only role you have not played so far. Badlapur had a touch of it, but I would love to see you in a full-fledged negative role. It will totally showcase your talent as an actor.

Sui Dhaaga is about pursuing your dreams, but what dream do you have in life?

Saloni Mhatre (@Saloni248): I honestly never had any dreams in mind until you came. You are not only my favourite actor but also a person who has taught me the importance of relationships in my life. The way you respect and love your elders, friends and most importantly your family is a quality I admire. I aspire and dream to be a better person and to make each and every person in my life especially my parents and you, proud and happy of me. I will strive to give my best and shine in whatever I do in life and have a positive ‘Sab Bhadiyaa Hai’ attitude

I like home cooked food. If I came to your house for dinner what food would you have ready?

Mishtu (@VarunDvnFa14): I will definitely prepare some of your favourite dishes! Since we know your love for all things chicken, I will cook chicken briyani and also pizza and brownies for dessert.

I am blessed to know a lot of fun people, but who is the most fun person you know?

Toheed Mehmood (@Toheed_dvn): It will be very difficult to choose just one fun person because it depends on the ambience and also my mood at that time. For me, a fun person is someone who makes people around them happy and their presence gives positive vibes. However if I really have to choose one, it will be my cousin brother because he is the Mauji”of my life and always so much fun. Also I love your energy and positivity, Varun. Whenever I feel low, anything I watch of you will be able to cheer me up. So thankful for you!

What are the things that make you smile?

Sharmiela (@czenina): It is the little things that make me smile and feel thankful in life like kind gestures, happy faces, beautiful sceneries, positive thoughts and of course seeing my favourite, you (Varun) happy and doing very well professionally and personally. One memory that will always be special and my happiest is finally meeting you for the first time in Singapore after being a fan since way back. Hopefully on some days we’re able to bring some sunshine and make you smile too!

I am passionate about a number of social causes and charities, but which are you most passionate about?

Isha (@ishab26): I support an NGO named Helpage India. They work for different causes but the cause I support is the one in which they use ayurvedic medicines and provide free cancer treatment to elderly people living in rural India. Another foundation I support pays for the cancer treatment of kids whose parents cannot afford the expenses. The reason I am passionate about these causes is because I can help make others feel better, ease their pain and bring a positive change in their life.

I like to dance. What are some good dance tracks you are listening to?

Khushi (@Khushi_1427): I am a huge fan of your dance! I might never be able to match with your steps, but I’m still trying! There are many good dance tracks, which I love listening to such as Dilbar from Satyameva Jayate, High Rated Gabru from Nawabzaade, Chogada Tara from Loveratri, and Ready To Move. I would love to see you doing a tap dance once!

I think women are the real superheroes, who is the most inspirational lady or girl you know?

Fatinaz (@Fatinaz13): The most inspirational woman in my life is definitely my mother! I’m sure everyone would agree that their mothers have been one of the most inspirational figures in their lives. The unconditional love and support mothers give to their children is just beyond words. Mothers are the real superheroes; they sacrifice everything without asking for anything in return. No matter what we do, we could never thank them enough.

What is the best thing you like about India?

Safia Azmat (@vdsidlovergmai1): The best thing about India is that it has shown a tremendous growth and development. From literacy to education to infrastructure, it has developed significantly. The culture in India is very unique compared to the other parts of the world! Also, the hard work and effort the people give from all over India is incredible, just like the ones we saw through the Sui Dhaaga Logo launch.

I love to travel and there are so many places I want to visit, but where would you love to visit?

Vibanshu (@vibh_forPChopra): It’s absolutely the same for me. I am geographically challenged to be honest! But I know there is so much I want to explore, so much to see, so much to experience. Since my last few trips, I realised how important it is. I know I want to visit every place that has engraved the theatre culture. I want to be able to watch the best of theatre productions, be it in Mumbai or London. I am a huge admirer and aspirer of this art form (after all I am your fan). I want to experience this art in the best of places. And currently, I can't wait to visit Ladakh and experience nature at its best.

What is the best advice you ever received?

Cimone Alvister (@Ciiimonex): The best advice someone ever gave me was ‘to stop trying so hard and that sometimes you just need to be yourself’. You may think it's not enough and you aren't worthy enough but no, still stick to being yourself. Even you (Varun) usually say, “being yourself is your power”. Nothing can be compared to individuality!

I have enjoyed working with Anushka Sharma for the first time, who else would you love to see me work with?

Natasha Gupta (@nats_varuniac): I would love to see you working with Parineeti Chopra because you guys would look lovely onscreen! You both had great chemistry in Jaaneman Aah and I would love to see more of it!

I think everyone is talented, what is your secret talent?

Arti (@artii08): They say everyone is talented in some way or the other, and I never believed in it. But poetry is something that comes to me so naturally. I never knew I could write and never even had interest in literature, but writing is something that happens so easily in my case. Poetry gives me peace. And this isn't a secret anymore because of social media that has been a boon in my life. I love writing!

Which of my films have you seen the most times?

Tot (@t3reed): That’s such a difficult question, but I’ll choose Main Tera Hero! This movie is extremely special! It makes me laugh no matter how many times I’ve watched it. Seenu is one of my favourite characters you played Varun. Also, the soundtrack of this film is amazing!

Ed Sheeran’s surprise Bengaluru street gig shut down by police: Viral video sparks online debate

Ed Sheeran’s impromptu street performance on Bengaluru’s buzzing Church Street took an unexpected turn when local police pulled the plug—literally! The British singer, mid-way through Shape of You, was stopped by officers, leaving fans in shock and the internet in stitches.

The viral video showed Sheeran strumming his guitar, drawing a growing crowd, when a policeman stepped in and disconnected his microphone. The pop icon, unfazed, simply smiled and addressed the fans: “We had permission to be here, but this policeman is shutting it down.”

Permission or not?
While Sheeran later reassured fans on Instagram—“We had permission to busk, by the way. This wasn’t just us randomly turning up. All good though. See you at the show tonight x”—Bengaluru police had a different take.

Filmed in her own kitchen, the show captures the chaos and charm of Katona’s daily life, complete with interruptions from her two-legged and four-legged family members. Super Bowl 2025: Taylor Swift booed, Kendrick Lamar stuns, Trump sparks controversy

The 2025 Super Bowl was a spectacle of high-stakes football, unexpected drama, and headline-grabbing performances, with Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar stealing the spotlight in very different ways. Held at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, the night saw the Philadelphia Eagles dominate the Kansas City Chiefs with a 40-22 victory, crushing the Chiefs’ hopes for a historic third consecutive Super Bowl win. But while the action on the field was intense, it was Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar, and even President Donald Trump who truly made waves off it.

Taylor Swift, attending to support her boyfriend Travis Kelce, found herself at the centre of controversy when Eagles fans booed as she appeared on the jumbotron. While she laughed it off with Ice Spice by her side, the moment quickly went viral, raising questions and conversations about sports rivalries and celebrity fandoms colliding. Things escalated even further when Donald Trump jumped into the drama. Trump, who has a history of taking jabs at Swift, mocked her and the Chiefs on Truth Social, calling them the night’s “biggest losers.” His comments only added to the online frenzy, with fans fiercely defending Swift while others enjoyed the spectacle.

If the game was a battle on the field, Kendrick Lamar turned the halftime show into a lyrical showdown. Performing a mix of his biggest hits, Lamar also took a not-so-subtle jab at Drake by teasing his diss track "Not Like Us." He even cheekily told the crowd, “I want to play their favourite song, but you know they love to sue,” a clear reference to the ongoing legal drama over the track. Adding to the buzz, Serena Williams made a surprise appearance, dancing on stage, which only fuelled speculation given her past links to Drake. The crowd went wild, and the internet had another Super Bowl moment to dissect.

For the first time in history, a sitting U.S. president attended the Super Bowl. Trump walked onto the field for a tribute to victims of a recent terror attack in New Orleans. While some fans cheered, others booed loudly, making his presence as polarising as ever.

From Swift’s unexpected booing to Lamar’s powerhouse performance and even Trump’s appearance, the 2025 Super Bowl proved that the biggest moments don’t always happen on the field. The Eagles may have won the game, but it’s the music, celebrity drama, and political twists that will keep this Super Bowl in the headlines long after the final whistle.
