Police appeal for help to identify man in Stamford Hill hate crime

THE Met Police are appealing for help to identify a man following a number of unprovoked assaults in Hackney.

Last week, Police received a third party report of an assault that occurred on Stamford Hill at the junction with Colberg Road.

The victim was knocked unconscious during the incident and taken to hospital with a broken ankle and facial injuries.

According to the Police, the victim had been making his way to his synagogue when he was struck in a random assault. He was taken to the hospital for treatment and was later discharged.

In similar incidents, a 30-year-old man was struck on the head with a bottle in Cavenove Road, and a 14-year-old boy was walking in Holmdale Terrace when he was approached and assaulted without warning.

The victims were all Jewish and the assaults were being treated as hate crimes.

Officers are trying to trace a fourth Jewish person who was believed to have been attacked in the days after the rampage, media reports said.

The Met has released an image of a man they are keen to speak to in connection with the incidents.

Videos appear to show the same alleged attacker dressed in white, wearing a headdress and a green-brown coat, reports said.

"Anyone who recognises the man, or who witnessed the assault and is yet to speak with officers, is asked to come forward. Please call police on 101 quoting reference 4492/20AUG. To remain anonymous, contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111," the Met Police said in a statement.
