Popular Bollywood remakes of South Indian movies

Inspiration has no boundaries and several Bollywood filmmakers have often taken inspiration from regional films. Here's a list of five films that have been inspired from down South.

Hera Pheri:


Hera Pheri, starring Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty and Paresh Rawal, is the story of two tenants and a landlord. The trio are in desperate need of money, and when they chance upon a ransom call via a cross connection they hatch a plan to claim the ransom for themselves.

The film is directed by Priyadarshan and is the remake of Ramji Rao Speaking.

Singham:

The Rohit Shetty directed film stars Ajay Devgn in the lead role. It is a remake of 2010 Tamil film Singam featuring Suriya and Anushka Shetty.

The film revolves around Bajirao Singham, an honest and valiant cop who fights against injustice. Destiny sets him up against a corrupt politician who challenges his ethics and beliefs.

Ghajini:

Ghajini stars Aamir Khan in the lead role and it is the remake of a Tamil movie of the same name. The film is about a businessman who suffers from a condition that prevents him from remembering anything beyond 15 minutes. With notes tattooed on his body, he sets out to find his fiancee's killer.

The Hindi movie also stars Asin, Jiah Khan and Pradeep Rawat in lead roles.

Wanted:

Wanted is the Hindi remake of Telugu movie Pokiri.

The movie is about a sharpshooter who is caught between a gangster who wants him dead, the police who want him for the information he holds and his girlfriend who yearns for him to mend his ways.

Simmba:

Simmba, directed by Rohit Shetty, is the Hindi remake of Telugu film Temper. The story is about a corrupt officer who decides to change his ways after a life-changing event.

The movie stars Ranveer Singh in the lead role.
