Precious Turban ornament auctioned in London

AN enamelled turban ornament from India fetched £350,000 in an auction held by Sotheby’s auction house in London on Wednesday (1).

The 19th-century gem-set turban ornament, or a sarpech, belonged to the Sikh Khalsa (or the army of the Sikh Empire) commander Hari Singh Nalwa.


Two 17th century Mughal miniature paintings from India were also auctioned by Sotheby’s auction house.

A prolific City dealmaker whose family fled Uganda during Idi Amin's regime has taken home more than £8 m this year after his investment bank capitalised on a boom in financial services takeovers.

Malik Karim, 64, received £8.6 m from the profit pool at Fenchurch Advisory Partners, the London-based firm he founded in 2003.
