Richa Chadha opens up about her role in Panga and her Bihari connect

Last seen in the Pooja Bhatt-produced film Cabaret (2019), which premiered on ZEE5, actress Richa Chadha is currently busy with her next movie Panga. Also starring Kangana Ranaut in the lead role, the much-awaited movie is being directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari whose credits include Nil Battey Sannata (2016) and Bareilly Ki Barfi (2017).

Richa Chadha is known for getting into the skin of her character. Be it Nagma Khatoon or Bholi Panjaban, she has made most of her characters memorable with her power-packed performances. The same she is set to with her role in the upcoming film Panga which is based on the Indian sport of Kabaddi. The actress has undergone extensive training to play her part to the tee in the flick.

Richa Chadha’s character in Panga required a Bihari influence and dialect. She used her roots from her maternal side and perfected her part. Talking about her Bihari connect, the actress said, “Very few people know of my origins and where I come from. My maternal side of the family are Biharis and I have a huge extended family living in that belt. I have always been closely knitted to both my paternal and maternal cultures. Having grown up in a house where I was exposed to a variety of languages, customs and cultures, I’m fortunate I get to use these experiences as an actor. It really is a blessing.”

She went on to add, “My part in Panga is very interesting and happens to be from that region and I was always familiar with the accent, words, language and an understating of a local dialect. I used this to the best of my capacity to bring authenticity to the character,” she concluded.

Also featuring Jassie Gill, Neena Gupta and Pankaj Tripathi in important roles, Panga is scheduled for its theatrical release on 24th January, 2020.
