Riteish Deshmukh replaces R Madhavan in Durgavati

Recently, Akshay Kumar announced a film called Durgavati which he will bankroll under his production house, Cape Of Good Films. The superstar also revealed that his Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (2017) c0-star Bhumi Pednekar will play the female lead, while Bhushan Kumar and Vikram Malhotra will be attached to the project as co-producers.

Right after the project was officially announced emerged rumours that talented actor R. Madhavan will play a pivotal part in the scary thriller. However, when the actor was asked about his involvement with the movie, he denied being a part of it. The latest we hear that actor Riteish Deshmukh has come onboard to play that important role in Durgavati.


For the uninitiated, Durgavati is an official remake of popular Telugu film Bhaagamathie (2018), written and directed by G. Ashok. Anushka Shetty, known for her powerful performances in several Telugu movies including Baahubali: The Beginning (2015) and Baahubali: The Conclusion (2017), played the female lead in it. While Jayaram played the antagonist in the movie, Unni Mukundan was seen as Shetty’s fiancé in Bhaagamathie. It is unclear as to which role Riteish Deshmukh has been signed for.

Durgavati will be helmed by Ashok G, who also directed Bhaagamathie. Presented by Akshay Kumar and Bhushan Kumar and produced by Vikram Malhotra, the scary-thriller is set to begin production in a couple of days.

Meanwhile, Riteish Deshmukh is shooting for Sajid Nadiadwala’s much-awaited film Baaghi 3 alongside Tiger Shroff and Shraddha Kapoor. Helmed by Ahmed Khan, the action entertainer is the third instalment of the super successful Hindi film franchise Baaghi. Baaghi 3 is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on 6th March, 2020.

Northern Ireland approves extension of post-Brexit trade rules

THE bereavement rates due to Covid in Scotland have been highest among those identifying with ‘Any other’ ethnic group (68 per cent), followed by Indians (44 per cent) and Pakistanis (38 per cent), a new study revealed. This is significantly higher than the national average of around 25 per cent.
