Rohit Shetty to team up with Salman Khan for a cop drama?

After the riotous success of his recent release Simmba (2018), hit filmmaker Rohit Shetty is gearing up to helm his next directorial venture Sooryavanshi, which stars superstar Akshay Kumar in the lead role of an ATS officer.

And once Rohit wraps up Sooryavanshi in next couple of months, he will reportedly join forces with megastar Salman Khan for a cop drama. The untitled project will be bankrolled by renowned filmmaker Sajid Nadiadwala under the banner of Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment.

"Rohit and Sajid have met a couple of times to not just discuss the possibilities of collaborating on a film with Salman in the lead but also on the content," a well-placed source reveals to a leading Indian tabloid.

"Among the many ideas they have discussed, one is a spin-off to the character of Devi Lal Singh a.k.a. Devil from Kick (2014), Sajid Nadiadwala's successful directorial debut. The 2014 film had an open ending with Salman's character donning the khaki uniform. If the idea materialises as planned, it could be the take-off for Rohit Shetty's film," the source added.

Rohit Shetty is known for his out-and-out commercial cop films, including Singham (2011), Singham Returns (2014) and Simmba. If he teams up with Salman Khan for his next, we can expect nothing but a sure-shot blockbuster at the box-office.

Meanwhile, Khan is presently shooting for his next Bharat. Also starring Tabu, Katrina Kaif, Disha Patani, Sunil Grover, Jackie Shroff and Suniel Shetty, the film is directed by Ali Abbas Zafar. It releases on Eid, 2019.

TroyBoi returns to his Indian roots with Rootz EP using Lata Mangeshkar’s voice to redefine British diaspora music

Highlights:

  • TroyBoi’s five-track EP Rootz is a personal return to the sounds of his childhood, released via Ultra Records in September 2025.
  • The single Kabhi uses an officially cleared sample of Lata Mangeshkar’s vocal from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.
  • Collaborations with Amrit Maan, Jazzy B and BombayMami plug Punjabi, Bhangra and south-Asian textures directly into modern trap and bass production.
  • This EP is part of a wider wave: British artists born into diasporas are using heritage not as garnish but as foundation.

Some albums hit you in ways you don’t see coming. Rootz is one of them. Not just another trap EP. TroyBoi, the London-born producer known for global bass and trap, has made something that’s also deeply personal. He didn’t just want to make music that bangs in clubs; instead, he wanted to reach back to the India of his childhood. And he did it with Rootz.

The track everyone’s talking about is Kabhi. Because it’s not just sampling Bollywood. Lata Mangeshkar’s voice was officially cleared for use on a non-Bollywood release, a milestone reported by multiple outlets. It’s history. It’s memory. And it’s a bridge.
