Saif Ali Khan joins Amitabh Bachchan on the cast of Aankhen 2

After superstar Amitabh Bachchan, Saif Ali Khan is believed to join the cast of the upcoming heist drama Aankhen 2. The film is a sequel to the 2000 hit Aankhen, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Arjun Rampal, Paresh Rawal and Sushmita Sen in prominent roles.

According to reports, Saif Ali Khan has agreed to come onboard to play a pivotal role in the Anees Bazmee directorial. If all goes well, the makers will roll the camera towards the end of the year.

“Both of them had been planning to collaborate for a few years. The filmmaker was looking to cast someone for the second male lead and approached Saif with the script. The Nawab of Pataudi will essay a role similar to what Akshay Kumar had portrayed in the first part. Saif has been a part of successful thrillers such as the Race franchise. So, he jumped at this offer,” a source close to the development revealed.

The source added, “The producers needed someone younger than Amitji, but still senior enough in the industry. They wanted an actor in their late 40s and Saif was the perfect fit.”

We also hear that Jacqueline Fernandez may join the cast to play the female lead. The film is expected to have five principal characters.

Amazon’s ‘God of War’ reset proves Hollywood can’t get video game adaptations right

Highlights

  • Dave Bautista is taking over as Kratos after Ryan Hurst's injury forced Amazon to recast the role.
  • The series is effectively starting again, with none of the footage from the original production being used.
  • The major reset puts fresh pressure on Amazon's attempt to adapt one of gaming's most recognisable franchises.

Hollywood's relationship with video game adaptations has changed considerably in recent years. Shows such as The Last of Us and Fallout have demonstrated that games can translate successfully to television when their characters and worlds are treated with care. Amazon's God of War, however, has already encountered a production setback that makes its journey to the screen considerably more complicated.

Dave Bautista has closed his deal to play Kratos in the Prime Video series after Ryan Hurst, who was originally cast in the role, suffered a serious on-set injury. Hurst reportedly tore his bicep while performing a stunt in June, around four months into filming. Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television subsequently decided to recast the central role.
