Kanika Kapoor tests positive for coronavirus; Indian politicians 'in trouble'

WHEN Bollywood singer Kanika Kapoor was tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday (20), it sent panic waves among Indian parliamentarians.

At the latest count, four Indian politicians are already under self-isolation.

Reports state that the number may go up and even the president of India likely to be quarantined.

The reason is simple, parliamentarian Dushyant Singh and his mother former Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje came into contact with Kanika Kapoor.

Afterwards, Dushyant Singh attended parliament. He was also part of a delegation which met Indian president Ramnath Kovind the other day.

Raje and Dushyant Singh had attended the dinner in Lucknow, where singer Kanika Kapoor was also present.

Vasundhara Raje on Friday (20) confirmed that she and her MP son Dushyant Singh are in self-quarantine.

“While in Lucknow, I attended a dinner with my son Dushyant & his in-laws. Kanika, who has unfortunately tested positive for Covid-19 was also a guest. As a matter of abundant caution, my son & I have immediately self-quarantined and we’re taking all necessary precautions,” Raje wrote on Twitter.

Following this, Trinamool Congress MP Derek O’Brien said he is also in self-quarantine, as he was sitting besides Singh in the parliament.

“Am on self-isolation and following all protocol, as I was sitting right next to MP Dushyant for two hours at a Parliament meeting on March 18,” he wrote on Twitter.

Congress leader Jitin Prasada has put himself under self quarantine, as he was also present in the party attended by singer Kanika Kapoor.

Dushyant Singh was also part of a group of MPs from Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan who attended a breakfast meeting hosted by President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan on March 18.

The Bombay based 41-year-old singer was visiting her family in Lucknow and had reached the city directly from London on March 10.

According to locals and neighbours, the singer attended two-three parties hosted in different parts of the city. She is also learnt to have visited a 5-star hotel during her stay there.

In one of the parties hosted by a businessman, the two senior BJP leaders and a Congress leader were also present.
