Slough MP will “press” government for more support

By James Bagley,  Local Democracy Reporting Service

SLOUGH’S MP Tan Dhesi said he will be “pressing” the government for more support as the borough enters Tier 3 after national lockdown ends.

The government announced on Thursday(26) Slough will go into the strictest restrictions, known as ‘very high’ alert level once lockdown ceases on December 2.

Slough will be the only borough in Berkshire to enter Tier 3 as other areas such as the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead will go into Tier 2.

Although cases have dipped recently, the borough still has a high infection rate of 313.6 cases per 100,000 people, as of November 26.

They also have 218.8 cases per 100,000 in the over 60s and 328.6 cases per 100,000 in those aged 17-21.

Dhesi urged residents to follow the public health advice where he announced he will “press” the government for more support for the borough, the people, and Slough’s businesses.

He tweeted: “With Covid cases still high (though number has fallen recently), government has announced that Slough will be in Tier 3 from 2 December.

“We cannot be complacent about this deadly virus, which has already had a huge toll on us, so please follow the public health advice.

“I will be pressing the Government for more support for our area, our hardworking people and businesses, who will be significantly impacted by these measures.

“There needs to be fairness and transparency in the system.”
