Sushant Singh Rajput says no to Arth remake?

Directed by renowned filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, Arth (1982) is a film which always finds a mention whenever someone talks about Bollywood movies dealing with the complexities of love, relationships and extra-marital affairs in the most objective ways. Headlined by acting greats like Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Shabana Azmi and late Smita Patil, the film has gained cult status over the years.

After 39 years of its theatrical release, Arth has become the talk of the town once again. Buzz has it that well-known actress-filmmaker Revathi is gearing up to remake the film. It will be made in Hindi. She has reportedly signed Swara Bhaskar and Jacqueline Fernandez to reprise the roles which were played by Shabana Azmi and Smita Patil respectively in the original film.

If reports are to be believed, for the role of Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Revathi had approached Sushant Singh Rajput. However, the actor has reportedly turned down the offer for reasons best known to film. It will be really interesting to see who comes onboard to play the male lead in the Arth remake after SSR nodding a no it.

For the unversed, Revathi has been a part of the Tamil remake of Arth named Marupadiyum. The film hit the marquee in 1993. She essayed the character played by Shabana Azmi in the original movie. Revathi even won the Filmfare Award for Best Tamil Actress at the 41st Filmfare Awards South for her powerful performance as Thulasi.

More updates on the project are awaited.
