Team 83 planning a film on ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup

Sports-based films have always arrested the attention of the audience. In the past few years, Bollywood has produced several successful films based on sports. Be it Gold (2018) Dangal (2016) or M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story (2016), well-made sports movies have always found audiences while raking in the huge moolah for the producers.

If we talk about the present time, almost half a dozen sports-based films are at various stages of production in the Hindi film industry. Some of them include Panga, Sanya and 83. Starring Ranveer Singh as former Indian cricketer Kapil Dev, 83 chronicles India’s unprecedented victory against West Indies in the 1983 ICC Cricket World Cup.

The latest we hear that the makers of the same film are working on an idea for a movie on the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup. According to reports, if the Indian cricket team succeeds in bringing the World Cup home, then there will be another film based on the victory. “The talks for the movie have already begun where Madhu (Mantena) is super excited to get the movie going. He has started further talks on this new project as well,” a source reveals to an entertainment portal.

When contacted, Madhu Mantena confirmed the development, saying, “We are making the film to mark the iconic 1983 victory. After 83, if India wins the World Cup this year in 2019, we would like to make a film on the win.”

Directed by well-known filmmaker Kabir Khan, 83 also stars Deepika Padukone in an important role. Tahir Raj Bhasin, Saqib Saleem, Jiiva, Pankaj Tripathi, Ammy Virk and Harrdy Sandhu also feature in the movie. 83 is scheduled to hit the silver screen on 10th April, 2020.
