Working out the age factor

WE ALL know that exercise has many benefits for our health and wellbeing.

A regular exercise routine can help build stronger muscles, prevent chronic illness, manage your weight and help you look and feel much better. But can exercise help us to look younger and reverse aging?

Studies show that it can, so maybe it’s time to ditch those expensive anti-aging creams and serums and start working out. Scientists have discovered that regular exercise can play a key factor in reversing the skin’s aging process. Research has found even people who started working out later in life can achieve younger-looking skin.

Consistent exercise has many physical and mental benefits, which in turn will help you feel and look younger. Working out and participating in endurance activity can help with muscle rejuvenation, thus preventing muscle deterioration which is associated with the aging process.

Our skin changes with age, losing elasticity and becoming thinner, which results in wrinkles, sagging and crow’s feet. This usually occurs because of the changes within the layers of the skin. High intensity and strenuous exercise will make your heart work harder and improve circulation. Exercise pumps blood through your arteries, veins and capillaries, which can help to improve the appearance of the skin and assist with detoxification, cell and skin rejuvenation.

A good sweaty workout can help improve blood flow and circulation all over your body. It can also improve your sex drive due to improvements in body appearance, confidence and an increase in energy.

New research also shows that keeping active regularly can reduce the inflammation within the body, which is associated with the aging process. This, in turn, can decrease the risk of developing conditions such as heart disease, loss of muscle function, decreased mental function and depression.

Doing the right exercise and training the core muscles can help maintain a better posture by improving overall strength and mobility. One of the best forms of exercise for helping with posture and flexibility is yoga. It makes your body more supple, improves strength and posture and helps in achieving a better state of mind and relaxation. All these are factors in keeping you healthy and fit.

Although many studies show that exercise can keep skin looking youthful, there are other factors that play a part too, such as genetics, diet and lifestyle.

It’s never too late to start exercising, regardless of your age. Always remember to seek professional advice if you are unsure where to start with exercise, or if you have a health condition. Always build up gradually.

Regular exercise has many benefits that will keep you feeling and looking younger. It helps you stay stronger, healthier, more flexible, fitter, can improve balance, endurance, increase energy levels and overall skin condition. It will keep you feeling more youthful, so keep exercising!

Doctors urge children under 8 to avoid slushies due to glycerol risks

Children’s love for brightly coloured, sweet beverages, such as slushy ice drinks, may come with hidden dangers, according to new research that highlights the risks posed by glycerol, a common ingredient in these products. Doctors are now urging that children under eight should completely avoid slushy drinks that contain glycerol, as they may cause serious health issues, including loss of consciousness and shock.

The call for revised health advice comes in response to a recent study conducted by paediatricians in the UK and Ireland. The research, published in the journal Archives of Disease in Childhood, examined 21 cases of children aged between two and seven who required emergency treatment shortly after drinking glycerol-containing slushies. These cases, all from 2018 to 2024, involved children who became acutely ill within an hour of consuming the drinks.
